Captain Quiet

January 19, 2010

Meet Captain Quiet:

Captain Quiet possesses the long-legged gracefulness of a Greyhound and the gentle, intelligent and adaptability of a Lab which makes him an ideal dog. As is true of both breeds, Captain LOVES to exercise and will need a fenced-in yard or dog park to run and/or daily walks.

This sweet guy came in to ARF’s Adoption Center with his two siblings, Peaceful and Commander Calm (“CC”), who were recently adopted. Captain is about 8 months old of puppy playfulness.

Please stop by and spend time playing with Captain Quiet and discover for yourself what a very special fella he really is.

Captain Quiet is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Buddy

January 13, 2010

Meet Buddy.

Meet Buddy:

If dogs could actually smile when you walk into a room, that would be our Buddy when he greets us each morning from the kennel.

Buddy and his sister Carly were found alone, wandering streets in search of food and shelter before being rescued. Carly has since been adopted and now it’s Buddy’s turn. Sweet and gentle, fun and playful are all words that can describe this great guy. How about a running buddy or a game of throwing and retrieving tennis balls at the dog park? Or, perhaps a loving nuzzle after a long day at work or school? Come meet Buddy – he’s waiting for you.

Buddy is a bit shy so he would do best in a home with another dog and requires a fenced in yard.

Buddy is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

If you are interested in Buddy, please call ARF at 410-643-8700 or drop by the center, now open 7 days per week.

Dolly

January 12, 2010

Meet Dolly

Meet Dolly:

Dolly came to ARF with her five kittens (Kiki, Blu, and Callie are still at ARF with us).  Dolly is a very special young mama who not only mothered her own kittens but accepted and mothered an orphaned kitten called Casper. With a smooth, soft tortie coat and bright golden eyes Dolly is truly a center favorite. When I come in on Friday mornings, Dolly will come to greet me with her silent meow.  I would pick her up to say hello, and she instantly begins to purr.  She has a gentle, calm personality and does quite well interacting with other cats/kittens and dogs/puppies. Her needs are few: a warm, safe and affectionate home.

If you would like to meet lovely Dolly, please call the ARF center at 410-643-8700 or drop by the center, now open 7 days per week.

Dolly is spayed, up-to-date on shots, micro-chipped and FeLV/FIV (-)

An Update on Bubba

January 11, 2010

Reintroduce yourself to Bubba: http://arfusa.wordpress.com/2009/11/09/bubba/

Bubba is still at the shelter.  His personality is still the same, and he’s still looking for his forever home.  I have had the privilege of watching him grow up since last July.  He is a wonderful boy and would do great in any type of home.  He loves to play with all the other cats, and does a great job of playing with and entertaining the younger kittens.

Here are some update shots of Bubba.  He is becoming a very handsome young man!

Blu

January 8, 2010

Meet Blu.

Meet Blu:

Blu has a gorgeous medium gray coat, is approximately 16 weeks old, and ready for his own home! Blu’s mother is Dolly and out of all of Dolly’s kittens Blu is probably the most outgoing and adventurous – a wonderful play companion.  He has really come out of his shell.  He loves to run around the shelter and play with his siblings and the other cats of the shelter.  He gets along well with both the volunteers and the other cats.

If you are interested in Blu or his siblings, please call ARF at 410-643-8700 or drop by the center, now open 7 days per week.

Blu is up-to-date on shots, FeLV/FIV (-), micro-chipped and neutered.

Blu came to ARF with his mom, Dolly, and 5 siblings. Here he is with Callie, Onyx, and Kiki.

Buddy knows that the weather is bad today, but he's ready for it. Brave the weather and come hang out with Buddy this weekend!

Get Your 2010 Calendars!

November 13, 2009

ARF Calendar

Need a calendar for 2010? Need an idea for a stocking stuffer? Pick up our 2010 Raffle Calendar.

Why do you call it a “Raffle Calendar”?

Funny you should ask.

The ABC’s of the Raffle Calendar

Only 1000 calendars will be sold. Each calendar costs $10.

Every day of the year has a dollar value assigned to it. If your name is drawn for that particular day, you will win the dollar amount assigned to that day.

In general, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays are worth $10 each (that pays for the calendar!) If your name is drawn on a Friday, you win $25 (that’s two calendars and an extra $5!). Holidays have higher prize amounts ranging from $50 – $100. The calendar shows each day with its corresponding prize amount.

Drawings are held monthly, not daily.  The third Monday of every month, names will be drawn for every day of that month. The first drawing is Monday, January 18th. On that day, there will be 31 names drawn – one for each day in the month of January.

After a name is drawn and recorded, it is put back in the “hat” available to be drawn again, including the very next pick.

A notice will be sent to the winners along with a check for the prize associated with each day. It is therefore very important to legibly complete each ticket stub with your name and full address. Income taxes are the responsibility of the winners.

There are 365 chances to win on calendars sold and turned in before January 18th.

All proceeds from the calendar to go our spay and neuter program.

The important part:

To purchase raffle calendars, please stop in or call the adoption center at (410) 643-8700 or email info@arfusa.org.

Tell them you got the info from ARF’s blog!

Every time a calendar is purchased, Diva smiles:

Diva

Someone bought a calendar.

Bubba

November 9, 2009

Meet Bubba:

Bubba is a domestic shorthair that is about 6 months old. As you can see from the pictures, he has beautiful coloring – white with tabby patches – and a tabby tail.

Bubba has two sides: one side loves to cuddle and be close – the other side loves to play and get into mischeif with the other teenage cats. As soon as he sees you near the cat food, he becomes your best friend. Doing anything to rub up against you and smell the food he knows you’ll feed him with. Bubba plays very well with the other cats at the shelter. He runs around and wrestles with all of them. He likes playing with toys, especially loose springs – and loves to relax in the sunlight after he’s eaten his meal.

Bubba is litter box trained, up to date on his shots, neutered, and FeLV/FIV tested negative. Now he is looking for a forever home where he can play, cuddle, and relax in the sunlight.

If you or someone you know would like to take Bubba home, please visit the ARF Website at www.arfusa.org, or email info@arfusa.org.

Bonnie

November 8, 2009

Meet Bonnie:
Bonnie was the sister to Clyde when they came to be fostered at a volunteer’s home at about 3 weeks old and is now about 3 months. The brother and sister were brought to ARF from BARCS (Baltimore shelter) and the same day into their foster home. We don’t know the background of their mother or where they were living but both came to ARF apparently with bacteria infections and/or parasites as well as worms and were on different medications from an early age.

Unfortunately, Clyde who was the weaker and smaller of the two was not able to overcome his illness and died at about 7 weeks. Bonnie, however, has overcome her illnesses and is now a healthy and strong 3 month old beauty. The vet believes that Bonnie is an Abyssinian cat by her markings and coat color. She is very pretty. And loving. She enjoys playing with the little and big kitties and interacting with mom and dad as well as small kids. She seeks out attention and affection many times during the day.

Bonnie appears to have a digestive condition that does not require medication but a special diet. She is prone to diarrhea and vomiting and has been for quite awhile. She has been tested for all sorts of stuff by a couple of vets who now say she is healthy after rounds of different meds to clear up any leftover earlier problems. So, my vet suggested that I increase her fiber to help (ed note: my cat has a similar digestive problem. His vomiting improved considerably after switching to a high fiber diet). She now eats dry Science Diet for sensitive stomachs plus adult wet cat food that has more fiber. With this food she does very well. The Science Diet food is a little expensive but she does not each much and should last awhile. We stress that whoever adopts her needs to be aware of this, at least until she is grown.

Update: Bonnie was adopted by her foster family on November 11. We congratulate Bonnie on finding her forever home and wish her and our ARF volunteer the best in their new life together!
